Which skin tone are you

Do you know which skin tone you are?

Do you ever venture into boots or Superdrug on the look out for a new foundation or makeup product but get greeted by 58647 different colour choices? Beige waffle, damson dusk, morning dew, peach puff..... the list could go on! 😩

Confusing isn't it.☹️☹️☹️

Trying to figure out your own skin tone is like a round in the crystal maze, "hold yourself 360 degrees north towards the sun beam that comes through your bedroom window at approximately 2.34pm, then look at yourself in the mirror to determine what your true skin tone is" 😑

Ok maybe a slight exaggeration.

But it's seriously frustrating trying to decide what your skin tone is, you buy a foundation and it's far too pale it makes you look like you've been dead for 5 months, too yellow you look like you've got some sort of obsession with eating sweet corn, too pink you look like you're constantly flustered. It's some serious shizzle that you really shouldn't need an honours degree to work it out. I just want a foundation man! 😛

So I've tried to make it simple for you. So let's get started.

Go grab yourself an a4 piece of plain white paper. Go get your sharpies and draw a pic....... NAHHH just kidding!

Do get the white paper though.. please! ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻

Hold the paper right up to the side of your face, in natural daylight. The brightness of the white paper will help you to see any prominent colours within your face. If your skin appears yellowish or sallow beside the white paper, you have a warm skin tone. If your skin appears pink, rosy, or blueish-red, then you have a cool skin tone. If your appears gray, you have an olive complexion with a neutral undertone.

Another way to check your skin tone is to look at your wrists. Again in natural sunlight have a look at the back of the wrists and stretch your hand away from you. This should show the veins easily, from here you can examine the colours and see which colours are more prominent.

If your veins appear blue or purple, you have a cool skin tone, If your veins appear green, you have a warm skin tone. If you can't tell if your veins are green or blue, you may have a neutral skin tone. If you have an olive complexion, you likely fall into this category.

What colour clothes should you wear to suit your skin tone?

  • Warm undertones should try neutrals, like beige, cream, orangey-coral, mustard, off-white, yellow, orange, brown, warm red, and yellow-greens

  • Cool undertones should try blue-red, blue, purple, pink, green, plumb, navy, magenta, and blue-green.

  • Neutral undertones can draw from both groups. Most shades will flatter your skin. (You lucky lucky people)
